I swear that I waste so much time on the computer. I work and work on various logos and website ideas, but nothing comes to life. This reminds me of my good friend Ed. He does the same thing. He will design and design and write up business plans for his business and at the end of it all he is left with a bunch of half-started ideas.

Well, heres the deal. I have been wanting to make a logo for my local Karate Dojo (Helena En Shin Do), a logo for my brother’s Karate business (Pacific En Shin Do), and a website for Helena En Shin Do, a website for my church (Friendship Baptist Church), a website for a missionary family (The Epps to Nicaragua) and so on and so forth. Actually, this gives me an idea, I’ll make a list of all the things I want to do for other people. Here’s the list:

  • Logo for Helena En Shin Do Karate
  • Logo for Pacific En Shin Do Karate
  • Website for Helena En Shin Do Karate
  • Website for my church: Friendship Baptist Church
  • Website for Keni and Vanessa Epp, missionaries to Nicaragua
  • Finish my own portfolio section, that’d be nice
  • Website/Web Application for Real Estate idea
  • Business card for Colin, my friend who is in the clothing business for Cardboard Robot

And….as you can see, I fill my life with so much stuff that I say I am going to do for others. But what good is talking about it when who knows how much of this list will actually get done. Is anyone out there like this? Do you piddle around with a ton of ideas, getting none done?

My wife, Toni was just talking to me about this very issue. People all around me will ask me, Rogie how is life? What do I say? Ohhh man, it is sooo busy. I work all day long at Travel Montana, then I go home and work. Toni asks me, does this really happen? No way. I go home and piddle around forever on projects that just don’t seem to get finished. I sware sometimes people get in these situations, what I call “infinite loops.” You know in coding, when you make a for…loop or a while…loop and you some nasty code that causes this loop to keep going and going and going with no end? Yeah, you know that feeling? Thats how my current Web Design/Project life is going. How do you know for sure you say? I’ll prove it. I’ll find all of this meaningless crap I build, from logos to pixelart to God only knows what and I’ll post them on this site. For starters, here is the Helena En Shin Do Logo:

[edit] Here is some more crap, I like to call the piratey one “skurvy”:

[edit] Once again, I have found more of this piddling crap I do. I think this is some sort of nautical logo, you know with a whale fin and all. I think that it was inshpired by “The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou”:

Yeah, I do that shit constantly. I have a few sites for friends/family that are piling up, sitting stagnant. When you do it all day, then think you can go home and do it, it just doesn’t happen. I’ll throw around ideas for sites, concepts, server upgrades – you name it – I’ve done it (and never really finished it).

I find that by just not doing most of anything nor promising anybody anything, that I can get it done. Doesn’t happen often enough though.

So Ridlo, you say that you just don’t promise people stuff, then you get it done? Maybe thats what I gotta do. As you can see, I tell people a lot of stuff, but none to fruition, although I think that En Shin Do logo is sweet.

By the way, speaking of never getting things done. What the crap is up with your Reciprocal Media Solutions. Nice logo, but I don’t see a site. Hmmmm. Maybe its lost. :]

douche-hammer! I finish stuff! Ok… I don’t… My brain is constantly hit with new and exciting ideas (at least to me). The problem is balance vs dedication. I don’t ever choose projects or ideas I can’t finish, but some are definately big and if I sit too long the ol’ brain stem starts pushing fluids to my cranium and creates the black hole that my mind response to with new ideas to fill it.

Another problem is loyal devotee’s. Let’s face it; I need slaves. I can usually inspire people to jump on board. However, unless there is money involved it is difficult to keep people’s focus on the end goal.

Even though I’m a slacker, I really enjoy thinking about new ideas and projects. I need to turn in my MS paperwork and get started on my PHD so someone will pay me a lot of money to just think crap up :)

    I love ya!

Oh, I tell people that I can get whatever they need done, but then it just falls by the wayside, and I feel like an ass. I’ve had to dismiss a few projects lately just so I can stay organized with what I have to do already.

As for a site for RMS, that’s a classic example I spent (and still spend) way too much time preparing all the the aspects of the business – server contrstruction & maintainance, business organization, etc. Even all of that is a pain when I’ve got to focus on my day job.

    Soon though…

omg… so, an ex-collegue of mine, still friend wanted to get Rogie to bid on their corporate website. And with good reason, Rogie has mad skills. The corporate officers recieved bids from other design companies and when A SPECIFIC asshat was asked if he contacted Rogie, he replied no he did not because “they” did not feel comfortable with Rogie because of all the references to me on his site. LMAO!

Aside from this being one of the most retarded and chickenshit things I’ve heard in a while, it does help emphasis my point I’ve made many times to Rogie about this site: You should not have this blog and functionality built into a site taht is supposed to front for your web biz. Or just don’t reference me on your site :)

BTW, I’m not overly bitter about this, but I will not recommend anyone use my previous employer for their services any more. Mainly because they are sketchy individuals which form the amalgamous nasty business mongoloid know as… Haha, well I don’t really have to name names if you know me :)

Geesh man, I can’t believe that. Y’know ed, thats all cool with me. I’ll put them through the Ed filter. If they aren’t cool with you or referencing you, then I don’t want to do business with them anyway.

This whole blog/personal/business mixture being bad has come up on a ton of websites as being an issue. The way I see it, I wan’t personal face on my business. Life is too short to be all bureaucratic and stiff about my business. I wan’t the people who I deal with in my business ventures to know that I am a fun and crazy individual and that I love my friends. Period.

I never finish anything, but I am working towards managing my time right. One thing I found was that mostly it’s because I am a perfectionist (as most of us CSS-freaks) and I just keep working on something forever. To avoid that I decided to just let it go and post it online for f*** sake. Then I will do minor adjustments later on.

    moltar,

you nailed it. thats exactly what i have found. you have to just post the imperfect work, cause honestly, nothing is ever perfect enough for me. then in the future, slowly work and add to it to bring it to perfection. interesting. sounds like how God made us. :)
