Social Signin Buttons

As social websites like Twitter and Facebook have become dominant forces in the social network scene and with both networks offering sign-in solutions using either of them, we are going to see “Sign in with…” buttons popping up all over the place. And why not? Why would I want to create yet another account in the account-soup that is the interweb today? I don’t! It’s a heck of a lot easier for me to sign into a site using my Twitter or my Facebook account than it is to go through a lengthy account creation process.

Well, then cool! So as signing in with these websites is becoming more popular, let’s just say that I think that the buttons are not so hot. Let’s face it. I want to click beautiful things. I don’t want to punch some gawdy twitter button that some poor developer with an amazing idea came across on an old geocities design hack’s site. I want that developer to have a beautiful “Sign in with Twitter” button.

Enough of my ramblings, I’ll get to the point. I made signin buttons for both Twitter and Facebook for you guys to use at will. There are 3 button states in each PNG image that you will see in the download: default, hover and press. That’s all! Enjoy!

    Great buttons Rogie! I’ll definitely be adding these to my site soon!

    If you continue to design and release such awesomeness, I will be able to design entire sites using only bits you’ve produced ;)

    @Joseph Cool! You are building sites/apps that offer a signin with Twitter? Do tell!

    @Dan That’s the whole goal dude…soon designers wont need to design!

    @ Dan Rubin – And then IE9 will be renamed Komodo Explorer.

    Nice buttons Rogie, but am I the only one who doesn’t like identity delegation? FbConnect != OpenID. I still prefer the longer sign-up process.

    I love to see consolidation of online identities a la OpenID. It’s one of the great things about all the Twitter focused web apps – often you can just get going without any signup process at all.

    Really nice buttons also btw, wish I had somewhere to use them!

    Absolutely Fantastic.

    Thank You, Twipstream v2.0 will need auth via twitter. This is perfect.

    @Rogie,

    Just my blog, nothing major. I’m working on an OAuth comment sign-in feature that will use Twitter, Google, or Facebook.

    Thanks again!

    @Joseph if you release it as a WordPress plugin, hit me up, I’d love to see it in action!

    Great buttons, they look really nice!

    Could you also release the illustrator/photoshop file?

    These are great!

    Could you please release the source or make one for openid as well?

  14. Joseph McLaughlin said over 10 months ago

    @Rogie,

    That’s a great idea, hadn’t thought about going the plugin route, was just planning on hard-coding it (*slight blush*). I’ll let you know when it’s finished!

    As always, excellent work. I do have to challenge you on the facebook button… it seems very similar to the already popular official Facebook Connect buttons.

    Though yours is not promoting “FB Connect” and uses real-world language that people actually understand.

    Very nice! Now the real question, when are we going to get the tutorial for the backend of the Facebook / Twitter Connect?
