Nate, thanks for looking at it the right way! I think it’s kinda stupid for people to have to do that, but this is the only way I’ll actually get icons made…and as you can see, it’s working!

A little while ago I wanted to use your set but needed a Google Buzz icon, so I just made one in Photoshop and ended up with a little template for “komodo-like” icons. Parts of it were hard to reproduce perfectly, though, like the shadow under the 32px version. That got me thinking – maybe you could release the template you use to the public, and then if people want something special, they could do it themselves!
You have an awesome audience built up around these icons, and it would be cool to see what happened. You could even have some kind of GitHub repo with all the icons and template assets, and people could contribute.
Just a thought.

Jake, thanks for the great thoughts. Agreed, releasing the template would be a very good idea. I’m actually planning on releasing an add-on set that has more generic types of icons. When I release that set, I’ll also be releasing the template to build your own. Great thoughts and thanks for the kind words!
