I get really antsy sometimes. I’m always wanting to change things up. I really like modifying the way that I process my day and I like tweaking it to see what makes me more productive. I’ve been known to go on coffee fasts (skipping coffee for 2 months), go on pulse diets (eating only beans and legumes for 2 weeks), and completely remove myself socially from the web. It’s strange. My life is an ebb and flow. Sometimes I’m a manic social chatterbox and then I quiet down on the web. It seems to be the way I work.

I’ve learned a lot from these little detox sessions, like massive productivity boosts and creativity soars, so it’s time for a new one. I’ve got a big month ahead of me with a store opening soon, plenty of awesome client work and more, so I’m gonna mess with my habits again.

This time, I’m going to remove myself from Twitter, Dribbble and Facebook, but ONLY from two way communication. Yup, I’ll still do status updates and post an occasional shot on Dribbble, but no reading of comments and replies. I will ONLY contribute to the web, but not consume. In this way, I can focus solely on creativity. It’ll be interesting to rebound a Dribbble shot with my own thoughts vs listening to the thoughts of others. It’ll be interesting not looking at the like counter or the popular page to see how well something I posted is doing. It’ll be interesting to voice my thoughts on Twitter without knowing it is heard. Maybe a tweet will affect millions or maybe not at all. Basically, it’ll be like yelling into emptiness. Maybe it will teach me something about something. Maybe.

King out. Seeya next month.

I try to change often too, it’s great for personal growth. I’ve taken time off from the web too. Got jaded, let my domain expire and get poached. Lost touch with many other designers.

It’s one thing I won’t do again. Set myself back immensely.

Emerge from our hibernation with refreshed paradigms.

Seems every time I mention carbonite you end up bricking yourself away for a while. You’re going to miss my launch day…

Uh, interesting! Seems we could all benefit from dosing down a bit on social networking ie. Productivity.. I often try a “sabbath day” a week of NO COMPUTERS!!! (Sometimes it works)

So, is the social detox an experiment, or do you have an idea of what you’d like to gain by removing yourself from consuming so much web content?

I guess I’ll have to wait a month for the response.

Definitely keep us all in the loop when you get back. I’d love to see what you learn from the experience.

Funny thing. This morning as I was looking through some tweets I thought to myself “Where the heck is Rogie?” Guess I missed this post :)

Hope you’re having an awesome detox! See you on the flip-side.
