As I was having a boys night with my sons, Jameson and Jackson, I was checking email on my phone as we were eating dinner. Here’s the dialogue from the my talk with my four year old son, Jameson:
Me
Jameson, do you like it when Daddy is on his phone?
Jameson
No.
Me
Why?
Jameson
Because when you are on your phone, you are not with me.
Sure I was with Jameson. After all, I was 2 feet away from him…right? I’m finding that I am questioning my sons a lot, whether or not I think they are capable of an intelligent answer. Almost every time the answer teaches me a big lesson.

he is a smart little guy with emotion and feelings. he is perfect :)
That’s an interesting thought. When i think back on it i remember all the times that i was speaking to someone and they are tweeting or doing something else with their phone.
And its True… they aren’t there.
Gonna to try not to do this from now on :)
He is right, and you are good to ask him, and to care. Good job.
Aawh!
Dad points! Thanks for helping squash the paradigm, bro.
It’s a good lesson for both of you. If you both learn it now, you’ll be glad you did when they’re teenagers.
No texting at the table.
Well this should be a remainder for all of us …
My boys don’t like it when I am on the phone because it ties up angry birds for too long!
PS thanks for the icons :-)
Yes, He is right.
