It was a few years ago at a good friend, Collin’s wedding in Helena, Montana. After the rehearsal, we went up to his parents house for conversation, wine and DIP! Thats right, dip. His mother brought out this delectable onion dip that I kept raving about and vigorously tearing into, like a hyena ripping into the flesh of his near-dead zebra prize. This dip is awesome I thought.

His mother, being a wise woman indeed, gave me the recipe and since at many family gatherings and holidays, I’ll make this dip. And it is awesome. For reals.

At this monumentous day, I present you with the recipe for your families:

Ingredients

1 cup sweet Vidalia (or Mayan) onion

1 cup real mayonaise

1 cup swiss cheese

Just use equal parts of each for larger groups

Preperation

Mince the onion and shred the swiss cheese. Put into a bowl and mix until blended thoroughly. Put all of this into a Pyrex (or similar) dish and bake at 350° until golden brown on top.

Serving

Let cool for at least 10 minutes and serve with any cracker that you like (I like Ritz).

PS. Add a clove of minced garlic if you want to totally OWN everyone.

Disclaimer: This is a modified version of a pampered chef recipe.

Gather ’round these ingredients

2 Pounds Red Potatoes

2 Teaspoons Sugar

1 Can Evaporated Milk

1 Whole Sweet Onion

1/2 Cup Snipped Parsley

1 Teaspoon Salt

Ground Black Pepper

2 Teaspoons Horseradish

1/4 Stick Butter

Ok, I’m not one for over-hyping the preparation of these foods, so your gonna have to fill in the blanks if I miss something.

Boil the potatoes

Chop the Red Tatoes into 1-inch size cubes, after washed of course. Boil them ’til soft, just like every other mashed potato you boil.

Carmelize the Onions

Chop the 1 Sweet Onion finely and huck it into a frying pan with a 1/4 stick of butter on medium heat. Add the 2 Teaspoons Sugar and caramelize the onions. Basically, get them all nice and brown and tender, but don’t burn ‘em.

Work it all together

Once tatoes are done and caramelized onions, strain the potatoes and huck them in a bowl. Toss the caramelized onions in the bowl too. Wildly fling salt to liking, 1 can evaporated milk, 1/2 cup snipped parsley, black pepper to liking and 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish (I do like 4 teaspoons) into the bowl with the onions and tatoes. Blend them on high ’til creamy.

Enjoy.

However, some of us keep going back. I remember when I watched Super Size Me for the first time. I agreed with the film and it's research. I previously had tried to stay away from fast food. For the most part, I still do. However, after watching about 2 hours of delectable french fries and burgers, I wanted one real bad. The film had the opposite effect on me. I had stayed away from McDonald's so long, that it made me long for a grease-soaked, salty box o' fries. It made me want a huge Coke. It made me want a McGriddle.

Lets make one...

We all know that McDonald’s ain’t so good for us. However, some of us keep going back. I remember when I watched Super Size Me for the first time. I agreed with the film and it’s research. I previously had tried to stay away from fast food. For the most part, I still do. However, after watching about 2 hours of delectable french fries and burgers, I wanted one real bad. The film had the opposite effect on me. I had stayed away from McDonald’s so long, that it made me long for a grease-soaked, salty box o’ fries. It made me want a huge Coke. It made me want a McGriddle.

So, yeah I know its bad for me. But occasionally I break down and buy a delicious artery clogger from McDonalds.

For my first Howto concoction, I wanted to show the public a delicious breakfast sandwich, the McRogie:

The McRogie Breakfast Sandwich: Ingredients

Sun-Maid Raisin Bread (or any cinnamon raisin bread you like)

A few eggs (for french toast)

A splash of vanilla

A splash of milk

Hickory Smoked Bacon

Grey Poupon Mustard (insert mustard of choice here)

Swiss Cheese

The McRogie Breakfast Sandwich: Preparation

Mix a few eggs with a splash of milk and a splash of vanilla (french toast style)

Dip the raisin bread in the egg mixture (both sides). Give it about a minute to soak in.

Slap your soaked raisin bread on a frying pan and cook that sukka till its light brown.

Cook up yer bacon till its done how you like it. I like it crispy, yet flippy (if thats possible). Ohhh…and yes, that is a technical term, so use it.

Once the bacon is done, slap the swiss cheese and the bacon on one half of the french toast bread.

Slather the other peice of french toast with Grey Poupon (I like it thick baby)

Smush the two halves together and enjoy….

If you make this or have any other ideas to make this better, let me know. Also, check back for more howto’s in the future.
